ITINERARY

Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen

Welcome to Morocco!

For the first day of this Tangier desert tour, we will pick you up in Tangier, either from the airport or the ferry port, then start exploring this vibrant metropolis. We will begin with a stroll alongside the coast, then visit the city’s old medina quarter. Following that, we will head to our destination of the day, the Blue Town Chefchaouen.

Located on the foothill of two Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen attracts visitors worldwide for the vibrant blue color that washes over its buildings and streets.  We will spend the rest of our day exploring the town and enjoying its rich and colorful culture, alongside its mouthwatering cuisine. Finally, we will head back to a local Riad to have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: Chefchaouen – Meknes – Volubilis – Fes

Today, we will leave the Rif Mountains and head thethe Rif Mountains and head south to one of Morocco’s most important cultural destinations: the city of Fes. On the way there, we will first stop at the Volubilis site, an archeological town of ruins left behind by the Roman Empire. Before moving along to the nearby Meknes city, we will take some time to explore the town and learn about its historical significance.

Previously nicknamed “Le Petit Paris” during French colonization, Meknes also used to be the Kingdom’s capital in the 17th and 18th centuries under the rule of the Ismaili Dynasty. This period left behind some valuable monuments in the city, which you will get to explore today. Finally, we will continue to Fes city, where we will spend this night of Tangier desert tours at a traditional Riad.

Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga

This following day, we will be pickingpick you up from the Riad to begin our journey to the Moroccan Sahara desert. The trip will take us through the majestic Middle Atlas Mountains with their fertile green and rocky landscape. Our First stop today will be at perhaps the prettiest village in all of Morocco, Ifrane, nicknamed “The Switzerland of Morocco.”

In Ifrane, green parks fill the city alongside chalets and other typical European architecture. After a stroll through the town center, we will be moving forward toward our next destination, the Cedar forests of Azrou. What’s so special about these forests is that they are the natural habitat of the native Barbary monkey species. We can have a refreshing walk through the cedar trees and hopefully get a glimpse of the monkeys (they’re accustomed to visitors!).

Following this, our journey continues crossing the Atlas Mountains until we start reaching Morocco’s desert with the first desert town: Erfoud. Erfoud is known locally for its high-quality marble, fossils, and dates. We will take this opportunity to have a mouthwatering traditional lunch before continuing to the village of Merzouga: the gateway to the Moroccan desert. At the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, Merzouga is the perfect location for us to begin our camel trekking expedition into the desert.

The end destination of the camel trek is a lovely desert camp neatly hidden away between the dunes, where we will spend the night alongside the beats of Berber drums ending this day of the Tangier Desert tours.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani- Tinjdad- Todra Gorges–Boumalne Dades

The next day, we will be woken by the mesmerizing desert sunrise, after which we will see the camel trek back to Merzouga. Back in town, you can enjoy breakfast and a warm shower at our hotel. Following this, we will start heading to the final destination of this tour: Marrakech city. But before this, our Tangier desert tours journey will take us to the Todra Gorges near Tinjdad, mesmerizing rock formations that attract climbers from all over the world. We will have lunch and spend some time exploring the site before continuing to the Dades Valley. This is where we will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 5: Boumalen Dades – Valley of Roses – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech (Last day of Tangier Desert Tours)

For the last day of our Tangier desert tours, we will have breakfast at the hotel and have some time to explore the Dades valley. When we finish that, we will continue traveling alongside a road nicknamed “the road of the Thousand Kasbahs,” containing places such as the valley of Roses and Skoura.

Our next stop will be the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, an iconic historical monument near Ouarzazate where many big Hollywood movies were shot (Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, Kingdom of heaven, etc.). Following this fantastic exploration, we will take on a famous mountain pass called TizinTizen-Tichka, before finally arriving at Marrakech. We can drop you off at your preferred location, after which our tour will be over.
