Day 1: Marrakech to Zagora. (Beginning our Erg Chigaga desert tour)
Welcome to Morocco!
For your first day on this Erg Chigaga desert tour, we will pick you up from Marrakech (wherever you are in the city) early in the morning, to start traveling through the beaten paths of the Moroccan desert.
But before we do that, we will have to cross the high Atlas Mountains range, which will offer us breathtaking views to be remembered forever. After we drive through the Tizin Tichka Mountain pass, we will get to one of the most interesting monument in the region: the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. The Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou is a UNESCO world heritage site, because of its immense historical and cultural value. The Kasbah has actually been used a backdrop for many Hollywood movies such as: Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and The Mummy.
After some time exploring the Kasbah, we will continue driving through the lush green Draa Valley, until we finally arrive at the town of Zagora. This is where we will be meeting with a camel caravan to pick us up and take us into the wild Erg Chigaga desert dunes, until we get to the desert camp where we will spend the night.
The evening will be filled with good ambience, delicious food, and local artists playing Berber drums.
Day 2: Zagora desert Camp and exploring nearby attractions.
The next day, we will be focusing primarily on activities to do and sights to see around the Zagora area. To start off, we will pay a visit to the Jewish Silversmiths at the Amzerou Palmerie, then visit the fascinating 16th century subterranean Kasbah. The village where the Kasbah is located is called Tamgroute, and it is known for its artisanal pottery work.
After this, we will head to another desert village called Mhamid, which is so remote that the tarmac road ends there. When we are done with our explorations, we will head back to the Erg Chigaga dunes to spend this night of your Erg Chigaga desert tour at our desert camp.
Day 3: Zagora desert camp activities.
Today will be the last full day spent at the Zagora desert in this Erg Chigaga desert tour. In order to enjoy it to the fullest, we have a wide variety of desert activities prepared for you. If you’re a fan of skating sports, make sure to try out sandboarding in this whole new terrain. Similarly, if you’re a fan of SPA activities and self-care, you can try the famous sand baths that are rumored to have great healing properties.
For lunch, you can try a famous local meal called Medfouna, which is a meat filled pie slow cooked in fire ashes made in the sand. After that, you can camel trek during the sunset to experience the majesty of the desert one last time and get some amazing photographs of the landscape.
Finally, return to the camp in the evening to enjoy a big feast/party around a camp fire. Share desert stories and enjoy gazing at the desert night sky before heading to bed.
Day 4: Erg Chigaga Desert Camp To Ait Ben Haddou.
The next day, we will be woken up by the mesmerizing desert sunrise, after which we will camel trek back to Zagora. Back at the town, you will be able to enjoy breakfast and a warm shower at our hotel. Following this, we will start heading to Ouarzazate, but not before making a stop at the historical town of Rissani.
Then, through the magnificent Draa Valley, we will reach one of the most interesting monument in the region: the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. The Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou is a UNESCO world heritage site, because of its immense historical and cultural value. The Kasbah has actually been used a backdrop for many Hollywood movies such as: Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and The Mummy. This is where we will spend the night.
Day 5: Ait Ben Haddou To Marrakech. (Last day of Erg Chigaga desert tour)
For the last day of our Erg Chigaga desert tour, we will be leaving Ait Ben Haddou and head straight to Marrakech city through the Tizin Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains.
Finally, we will arrive at Marrakech in the evening, which is where our Erg Chigaga desert tour will end.
