Day 1: Fes – Ifran – Azrou – Medilt – imilchil – Todra Gorge. ( 1st day of 3 days Fes desert tours )
Welcome to Morocco!
For the first day of this 3-day fes desert tour from Fes city, we will be picking you up from your accommodation (hotel or Riad) and begin our journey to the Moroccan Sahara desert.
Our destination for the day will be the Todra gorges, which we will reach after journeying through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our First stop today will be at perhaps the prettiest village in all of Morocco, Ifrane, nicknamed “The Switzerland of Morocco”. In Ifrane, green parks fill the city alongside chalets and other typical European architecture. After a stroll through the town center, we will be moving forward toward our next destination, the Cedar forests of Azrou.
What’s so special about these forests is that they are the natural habitat of the native Barbary monkey species. We can have a refreshing walk through the cedar trees and hopefully get a glimpse of the monkeys (they’re accustomed to visitors!). Following this, we will continue traveling to the town of Midelt, where we can enjoy a mouthwatering traditional lunch, before leaving towards the Berber town Imilchil.
Imilchil is known for its lovely annual marriage festival, where young couples from different Berber tribes come together to celebrate their unions. From Imilchil, we will drive straight to the last destination: The Todra Gorges. At the site, we will have a delicious lunch and then spend the night at a local Kasbah hotel.
Day 2: Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Risani – Merzouga
The next morning of this 3-day fes desert tour, you will wake up to the clean and fresh air of the Atlas Mountains, which will encourage to take a stroll out through the Todra Gorges.
Then, we will start traveling towards the final destination for today, the Merzouga village. Along the way, we will drive by mesmerizing valleys, lush greenery, and small Berber villages where we can stop to rest or take photographs. Following this, we will reach the villages of Rissani and Erfoud, which are a strong indicator that we’re made it to Morocco’s desert regions. We will take this opportunity to have a mouthwatering traditional lunch before continuing on to the village of Merzouga: the gateway to the Moroccan desert.
Situated at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, Merzouga is the perfect location for us to begin our camel trekking expedition into the desert. The end destination of the camel trek is a lovely desert camp neatly hidden away between the dunes, where we will spend the last night in this 3-day Fes desert tour alongside the beats of Berber drums.
Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Medilt – Fez.
The next day and last one of this 3-day Fes desert tour, we will be woken up by the mesmerizing desert sunrise, after which we will camel trek back to Merzouga. Back in town, you will be able to enjoy breakfast and a warm shower at our hotel. Following this, we will start back to Fes city where our tour has started.
This time, we will stop by Rissani town, where we can visit the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the founder of the current ruling Alaouite dynasty. We will then continue traveling through the gorgeous Ziz valley, making sure to take many stops for photographs. Finally, we will arrive at Fes where we will drop you off wherever you wish. This marks the end of our 3 days Fes desert tours.
